Ford May Have Teased Mustang Hybrid For Chevy Camaro To Contend With

The pony car wars are about to get a little greener. Ford previously confirmed it will launch a Mustang Hybrid in 2020 and the automaker may have given us our first look at the car in a new advertisement.

Ford Authority reported the ad last Friday, which shows a darkened image of a vehicle’s front end wearing an illuminated Mustang badge on the nose. The shape is reminiscent of the current Mustang, but the lines appear softer and the grille piece is mostly solid—that lends itself to an electric powertrain, not a hybrid.

Things are more confusing when noting the digital engine shown before the teaser image is absolutely a V8 engine. Pairing a hybrid system to a V8 engine in the Mustang hasn’t been spoken of before, as Ford only said the Mustang Hybrid will have “V8 power and more low-end torque.” We’ve taken the statement to mean the model will have V8 like power, and not actually employ an eight-cylinder internal-combustion engine.

Ford hasn’t said anything more about the image since it made its sneaky debut in the ad promoting the automaker, but we know the car itself is coming. And the Chevrolet Camaro will have to contend with another new rival.
